Pájaros multicolores.

I'm barely trying out Blogger's new interface. It's... weird. But interesting. I mean, just today I was encouraging my students to try new stuff every day to give their brains some exercise, I can't back out n.n

Sorry for the lack of posts. Thankfully, this time it's not from procrastination. Well, maybe the lack of posting itself is: that's the problem with being an analogue illustrator who decides not to touch the computer for long periods of time unless needed: you miss e-mails, you forget to post, and you end up with piles of drawings you never post.

Just today I finished a birthday piece for three friends of mine. They were all born in August, one on the 13th and two on the 28th - hence, I opted to create a single illustration in three pieces, since it fitted and I had wanted to do so for a while now. 

Sip, se me ha ido un buen rato sin postear nada. Afortunadamente no es por no estar haciendo nada, o estarlo dejando para el rato - lo que los compas llamamos 'procrastinación', aunque blogger me lo corrija - sino por andar metida en mil proyectos. Personales, y uno en equipo - andamos haciendo un libro digital animado. Más sobre eso después. 

Aquí el punto es que hace poco fue el cumpleaños de tres amigos, una el 13 de agosto y dos el 28 de agosto. Mis finanzas andan limitadas ahorita, además de que quería armar algo especialón para ellos, y de paso traía en el horno la idea de aventarme una imagen que pudiera crear otras diferentes. Todavía queda por explotar más esa idea - bocetos, bocetos!! - pero por lo pronto he aquí la primera. O más bien, las tres primeras. Que forman una.

I don't really know whom I'll give which. I guess I'll just let them pick one blindly or something.

Oh look: Blogger's Interface lets me do new stuff with pictures. Interesting... I wonder if it'll let me put them all on the same line. 

...Nah. It won't. Or I couldn't figure out how. Most likely. But it let me justify the text. Score! :D

See, the interesting bit is this: Each of these pieces was created and painted individually, but the trees were arranged so that altogether, they could create different compositions.  The birds couldn't be divided - imagine a tail here and a head there - but the trees were designed so that the flow in the branches and the trunk lend themselves to the idea, and to make sure that not only they would connect with each other in every way I arranged them; but also that, when separated, they could stand alone in both composition and interest.

Aún no tengo idea de cómo le voy a hacer para darle cuál a quién - probablemente los deje que lo escojan ellos desde antes que sepan siquiera qué es - pero aquí lo verdaderamente interesante (al menos para mí) es que cada una de las piezas se pueden unir entre sí de distintas maneras, sin importar el orden en el que las pongas. Obviamente esto vino desde el boceto, donde estuve experimentando con las ramas y los troncos para  que esto fuera posible; pero además tenían que lograr ser piezas individuales, con composición y puntos de interés propios. Dentro de mis 'reglas', desde luego, estuvo en que los pájaros tenían que estar completos en cada pieza: de otro modo iba a estar muy difícil justificar un pájaro sin cabeza en una pieza individual...

Y pues bien: las composiciones quedan así. Pido indulgencias para mi árbol recto imaginario del bosque de mi cabeza: por lo menos las ramas encajan!!

Yeah, I know. The middle one. But hey, at least the branches fit - let's pretend there's a straight tree trunk in that forest. :S
