Dino Kitty

One of the best bits of living near parks is that whenever you have no clue of what to draw, kids are sure to feed you with ideas. This one was a little kid, dressed as a super hero and a dinosaur at the same time, meowing loudly while he glided on his scooter. I just had to do it.

Nap Weather

It's cold and gloomy out there. Perfect time to snuggle up, grab a blanket, a steaming mug of coffee or tea and take a little nap, isn't it? :)

Rapunzel

During the last few weeks, locked down finishing the artwork for a book that shall be shared as soon as I get the green light, the view calmed me down. But at times, it also made me feel like Rapunzel in the tower. So I decided to make my own rendition of her as soon as I could - and here we are :)

If she was anything like me, keeping that amount of hair under control would've been rather problematic. No way she can be all sleek and shiny.

...I need a haircut :)

Piano Flight

This time it's not about coffee - it's about music... Music takes you somewhere else, doesn't it? And you just get carried with it. You do.

This little piece was born out of this. Particularly track 3.

My Coffee Monster

I wasn't quite active this past few months because I was hard, hard hard hard at work. And sadly, it was all in stuff i can't show yet. Yesterday, however, I allowed myself a break and went and had a day off. Which included by some lucky coincidence stumbling upon my favorite coffee shop having a 1 euro coffee day.

After 5 lattes I realized, this is it. This is what comfort and happiness is to me. A warm little hug for my inner coffee monster-plant.

Theremin

Do you guys know what a Theremin is?

...No?
Only the most amazing music instrument in the world!

It sounds like a mix between a woman's voice, a violin and a cat. When you play it, no one can tell you are. And it's... well, see for yourselves.

  Beautiful, isn't it?

I would just love to be able to play it. I'll add it to the list of things I need to learn one day.

A Midsummer's Night Dream

Still exploring Fantasy themes. I really wanted to do some fairies. And well, Shakespeare lends itself well...

“The course of true love never did run smooth,” comments Lysander, articulating one of A Midsummer Night’s Dream’s most important themes—that of the difficulty of love (I.i.134).

Yvaine

Today's piece was all about fantasy. I didn't feel like doing a LotR or a GoT piece, though, and I've done a lot of Harry Potter - but Stardust? That's a universe worth exploring. So here it is, Neil Gaiman's beautiful, evocative concept of a Fallen Star, as visualized by me :)

Baobhan Sith

A little bit of Scottish Folklore for you. The Wikipedia entry is not that long - feel like reading a bit? :)

Piñata. Also spelled 'Pinata'.

I really felt like pushing the same color scheme of that last Buddha piece and creating, with the same palette, a mexican piece. It's interesting how you change the hue and you get a different result. And yet I love it all the same!

Buddha Smiles

You know the drill.
Light up your face with gladness,
Hide every trace of sadness...

Grimm and Perrault

After a very, very promising first meeting with my new agents at The Bright Group - who are just ADORABLE and amazing and awesome and adorable and happy (AAAAH!) - I developed a couple of pieces for their Fairy Tales Fiction Campaign. And I have to say, though they're both very different, I love them.

Above, Jacob and Wilhelm's Grimm 'Little Red Riding Hood', which has been one of my favorites ever - I even played the Wolf in kindergarten in a school play. I remember trying very hard not to breath once I was dead...

And below, my adored Perrault's Sleeping Beauty. Along with a rather showy display of dark magic by the dark fairy.
The interesting bit about this one was how iconic the story is, and how difficult it is to tackle it. Once I got over the fact that this is a Dark Fairy, not necessarily Maleficent - and I came up with the idea of using a friend's butterfly collection to draw inspiration for the fairies' look, it was down-hill from there. (Some details because i think it's worth it!!):

Magical Foxes

They say that if you love what you do, you will live in love for the rest of your life. Well, I know that is the case with me... I just really, really love throwing this little pieces together :D

More, many more to come!

Reading Buddies

I had no clue that there was actually a program to encourage self-confidence and literacy in children. But having been an avid child reader myself, and an eternal animal lover, you can imagine the sheer joy and fun that was making these...

Curiosity

A little piece based on Alice in Wonderland. You can explore this tale a billion ways, and you can always find something new to add...

Foxy Dress

Ooooh, how I'd love to own one of the two items shown on this picture... either the dress or the pet fox would do C:

IMAGINE BOTH :D

Learning!

I've always loved reading. These days, though, I seem to be always choosing between drawing and reading in my spare time - and luckily for my art, it's usually the first. I miss hiding under the sheets and reading, though.

My great love is history, though. Biographies are fun! And given my adoration for costumes too, this piece had to come out...

Gravity Cat

When chasing the red dot takes a step further. I mean, cat's are already pretty good defying gravity on a general sense - they'd make great space rangers, don't you think??

Tiny Dancer

Some pirouetting to make your life happy.

Today Summer starts!! :D

Daenerys and her children

I really was resisting Game of Thrones. I really was. And since all I heard was how awesome Daenerys Targaryen and her dragons were, I resisted her as a character for a loooooooonger time.

Well, she's PRETTY RAD.

And since I'm finally up to date with Season 4, I felt it was appropiate for me to do a little tribute to the Mother of Dragons... she deserved it after I scorned so much at her. You win, Daenerys. I'm rooting for ya.

Thumbelina

I always loved this fairytale. So when Sketch Dailies proposed the theme on twitter, I had to jump at it - even if it was a day late...

Pug Born to Ride

Not a lot of people know that, but I actually did my thesis on animation. My thesis consisted in proving a graphic designer could animate with tools already at hand.

Then I decided I couldn't be an animator, that I had to be just an illustrator.

Then pugs and guinea pigs happened.

What will happen next?

Lab Guinea Pigs

I seriously believe the Labs of the World would be a tad more fun if they were ran by guinea pigs. They'd be furrier, at the very least.

...And perhaps not very hygienic, but who cares?

Dreams and a Swan Song

I'm working on a piece that I'm rather proud of - hopefully on wednesday I'll be able to share. For now, though, have some long-forgotten dreams that came back in full rise today, while saying bye to others :)

Ghost Stories and a Cat

Loads of thing happened today. I got completely soaked wet in the rain biking home. I got freaked out thinking I had missed an appointment. I thought I saw someone I know on the street, but to this moment I dunno if it was him or not. I received music, messages, gifts and visions. And they can all be summed up in these two drawings right here.

Sometimes I'm enigmatic like that... but they speak for me!

Where were we?

Yes. Yes. Definitely 100 days of movies shall follow this exercise...

Specially because, let's be honest: life cannot be controlled. You can TRY and be happy for 100 days, and succeed at finding little things that make you happy, yes. It is possible indeed. But...

SO MOVIES IT IS. Yes. Here, have a cat too :D

Tal vez florecerán mis sueños de oro...

It's been 20 years today that my granddad left.

His name was Pedro, but since he spent a while in the US during the war, my nickname for him was always Pete: 'Abuelito Pete'. I was barely seven, and yet he left a rather profound mark on my current existence. He and I, we shared birthdays - so we celebrated them together. The hall outside his room was my first personal gallery: he would be prouder than my mom to hang anything I gave him to hang. He taught me to love animals (perhaps a little too much...?), he encouraged my love for reading and made me feel incredibly special every time I learned a new fact and shared it with him. He even got me a math book as a gift. I actually read it.

He taught me to love history: particularly WW2: When I was six, he sat me down and together we watched "Operation Daybreak" (Siete Hombres al Amanecer): he explained to me who the nazis were, and how was it that they took over almost all of Europe. To this day, this intro is permanently fixated in my memory:

He loved the sea, and tried to teach me how to swim. I failed miserably, but made it a pride point to learn. I'm a proficient mermaid nowadays (Well, I'm out of practice, but...). He would often listen to Agustín Lara, but my mom tells me he also danced the swing tremendously well. I just remember dancing with him where he would go particularly slowly so I could keep up.

He died of cancer in 1994. He smoked too much. He's the reason I don't. And yet, I know he's around proud of me everytime I make nazi jokes or achieve something special. And I know he'd be thrilled to know of my current life, and would've probably visited by now a couple of times.

Ahí te encargo, abuelito. Te quiero.

Fly Me to the Moon

If you guys have been following on Twitter, you know sometimes I get out of the whole Happy Days concept and diverge a little bit. Concretely, I try to make it about stuff that made me happy each day - but sometimes (because of work, routine, boredom, heartache or whatever) it is the act of drawing something unrelated that actually makes me happy.

These last two days it was the case. While hard at work painting another painting of my Secret Comic that I've been brewing for MONTHS now (just one more to go before I can send those pitches out into the world fully loaded!), I had the urge of flying away on what was a beautiful sunny day after days of rain - hence the first. Yesterday, it was May the 4th and I intended to do a Star Wars piece - instead, I disappointed my brother by paying homage to Audrey Hepburn on what would've been her 85th birthday.

And so it's decided. When these 100 happy days are over, I shall start a 100 movie project. Because movies make me happy, as simple as that. Sure, there'd be happy days scattered here and there (I hope!). But mostly movies.

So feel free to follow along, or when this new project starts - but there'll be more updates for sure... :D

Rainy happy days

It's raining again!! :D For an umbrella aficionado, you can imagine how amazing this is...

Specifically, today I had to take the Cat Red umbrella to have a walk. Sure, I went and joined some friends at a bar - but the walk itself was completely worth it.

Wherefore art thou?

I intend to speak Renaissance all day ong today. And put flowers in my hair and all.

Happy Shakespeare's 450th, everyone.

Let's face it: Romeo was rather good at parkour... Everyone gives him a tree to climb - HE DID IT BARE-HANDED u.u

True story.

Unicorn and Kittens

I just HAD to post this one.

Part of the 100 Happy Days Challenge, and quite frankly, the one that's made my inner little girl the happiest so far C:

Some newer Happy Days

These past few days took a rather odd turn. I guess this shows that nothing is for granted in this life, and that you should enjoy the moment while you can - later it may be too late!!

And, of course, time is always your friend. Time may put things right :)
